Winter Solstice 2017

Solstice Color Tones

The cold land dies: the night grows long and dark,
til solstice tolls surcease of winter's blight.
Like silent chime of geocentric clock,
the dawn sky chimes in color tones of light.

When superstition ruled the human mind,
and tribes chipped out crude arrow-points from stone,
the first bright spark of science let them find
the annual chime of solstice color tones.

While cropland spread, and empires rose and fell,
While mass migrations laid their trails of bones,
the mind discovered reason, which could tell
how chimes the sky in solstice color tones.

Yet still, dark superstition haunts the night.
In ignorance and fear it finds its power.
Now reason must speak truth and shine the light,
while color tones chime flares, this urgent hour.
